The sign above reads, “This pharmacy is closed all of the month of August for vacation.”
These signs are everywhere! It is understood that small businesses will often post these paper signs and deadbolt their doors in August because, well, people must vacation. Just this week, we traveled 45 minutes to a furniture store south of Madrid. We had heard there were great deals, so sacrificing the gas money and time would be worth it. But we forgot what month it was. The business had signs posted (see below) that say rather matter-of-fact, “Thursday the 12 and Friday the 13 we’re closed.” This, of course, is totally acceptable in Spain.
