Segovia (Posted 10-1-2010)

If you were in Madrid, and you were about to lose your driving privileges in two days, where would you go? We asked that question last night, because this is our lot. Julie will pick up her residency card on Monday, and it will hasta luego to our lovely “tourist” driving privileges.

Our answer was to drive 130 kilometers north and see Segovia: home of the famous 2 millennia old Roman aqueduct and a castle inspirational to the late Walt Disney. The aqueducts were a sight to behold. We wondered at it’s longevity and beauty–2,000 years, six stories high, and built with not one once of mortar! We couldn’t help but think that if Paul would have made it to Spain, he could have stood under this very structure.

Across town we visited the Alcazar, a castle acclaimed for being Walt Disney’s inspiration behind the castle in Sleeping Beauty. We also walked through the city’s 16th century cathedral.
